What is a sleep study?
A sleep study consists of an overnight stay in a certified sleep clinic where in a patient undergoes non-invasive testing during all stages of sleep to detect disorders and syndromes. There are different types of sleep studies offered and they are usually performed in a specific order to correctly diagnose and treat symptoms. The first and most important study is a Polysomnogram or PSG which is used for general monitoring and evaluation. Multi-levels of testing are done to record any signs of sleep disorders and specific activities throughout each stage of sleep. This information is documented and sent to a qualified physician to determine the findings and next step in treatment.
